MMD Sato Sasara Fancy - Model Review

Description

This is an almost excellent edit by ~SapphireRose-chan.

I was actually looking forward to reviewing this model as it definitely caught my eye from it's picture on it's own page. But once she was loaded into MMD, I found the design disturbing and really look at the model hard to figure out why. Now what I write here next, is just my personal impression and should not be misconstrued.

Basically, the model is of the Cevio mascot character Sasara Sato. It uses the hair model from the almost iconic Nakao model of the same character and this is grafted over the Tda Miku model base. To which then a sharp looking fashion attire was applied. On it's own, if we forget for a moment the characters involved in the equation, the model doesn't look bad. But in my minds eye I just keep thinking that it's the hair from Nakao's model slapped on a Tda model and the end result is "pretentious".

I've seen other well known characters translated to the Tda-style successfully. Take for example Tda Teto or Tda Neru. They both have the distinctive Tda-style appearance and both have retained their characteristic hair styles. Twin drills in Teto's case and a left-side pony tail in Neru's. They look like Teto or Neru, there's no mistaking them for Tda Miku. Even the Galaco conversion I reviewed earlier successfully made the transition but in this case, from my view point, I feel that the transition into the Sasara Sato character has totally failed. Maybe, if the hair was a custom made job, this would have worked. But right now I just cannot shake off the "Nakao hair grafted on to a Tda body" impression.

Anyway, enough of that. Let's have a look at the model itself in its own right in more depth.

MMD:
The model loads into MMD - immediate rendering problem. One of the spa/sph files used to tone the flesh doesn't render correctly. To fix this problem you have to turn off midmapping or turn on self-shadow. OK, so that's resolved.

Physics works fine - nothing falling off and that's always a good sign.

Load motion data - FREELY TOMORROW - she moves/flows like butter and the rigging of her high heels is superb. Not a single glitch in this area. However, that ribbon on her back has no physics and is as stiff as cardboard and it shows. BTW, that ribbon and her shoes are a matching set. I was tempted to just remove the ribbon entirely but then the shoes would not match the dress.

The dress itself is a taffetta style attire and has incorrect physics. The underlying bottom tier of white fabric having a nasty tendency to poke through at times and this is hard to miss due to the sharp color contrast. Also the model has long legs and a very high hemline. I kept getting the impression that she looks like a cocktail waitress in a Las Vegas casino - in order words, rather than elegant, the overall impression I got was that this made her look cheap. On the plus side, she's sexy as hell.

So I cleared out MMD and put her to a singing motion instead to see how that worked. Technically it worked fine. Aesthetically, it was a total fail. She looked like Tda Miku doing a cosplay of Sasara Sato and not doing a particular good job of it either.

PMD:
[1] Bones - a lot of redundent tail bones from Tda Miku's hair is still there ...
[2] Facials - the AL facials are redundent.
[3] Groups - 32 groups most of which are empty - needs a clean up.
[4] Labels need to be Anglicized.

Others:
[1] Documentation is excellent - even original readme.txt are included and everything is properly credited.
[2] D/L packaging is also excellent - only files actually needed for the model are included.

Overall:
This is definitely a quality edit into which a lot of effort seems to have been made. For sure good attention has been paid to most details. I have no problems recommending this model to anyone who likes Tda-style models. Personally, though I will be giving this one a skip but will definitely be looking forward to seeing other models from this editor.
