MMD Miku Vanship WIP by Trackdancer MMD Miku Vanship WIP by Trackdancer
Just messing around with SketchUp Make 2014. It's a nice piece of software.

The 'van ship' shown here doesn't really look like anything from the anime. Those have a much more streamline 1930s art deco styling to them. My version is just a 'flying bathtub', partly because I was making it up as I was going along. Really more of a practice model than anything else. As I drew it out, it's more like a mix between the van ships from the Last Exile anime, an early WWI vintage fighter/observation plane and a 'flying bathtub'. The latter because SketchUp doesn't have a decent mesh editing function so boxy type shapes tend to be the result.

Anyway, it's also set up so that it can have animated controls including:

Pilot (Gumi):

- steerable pilot column
- working choke and fuel controls
- working landing gear and controls for same
- working throttle

Navigator (Miku):

- work table with map
- radio set
- first aid kit
- radar set (?)
- holders for telescope (or binoculars), sextant (maybe), thermos or flare gun

Not sure whether I be finishing this, but it was fun to make. Probably will finish it though since I've taken it this far already, besides, using SketchUp it'll be easy to redo entire sections if I want to change my mind on somethings.

Oh, Last Exile XD
Been so long since I finished it a few years back, it's a very nice anime, though I still can't get over the fact that they are using WW1 style fighters in such futuristic technologies XP It's still a nice anime nonetheless

Very cute. Can't wait to see how it looks finished. I wish I could wrap my brain around MMD stuff.  I would be making Last Exile everything.

Thanks - the Last Exile anime has got to be one of the most beautiful even made from storyline, character, artwork and up. Might do a more faithful version of a Van Ship eventually, but this one was really designed to be used to develop the relationship between the pilot and the navigator - so it was made partially in mind for making mangas and comic rather than being faithful to the anime van ship designs.

Thanks - might be a fun model. This is definitely one of those models that I just needed to 'work out of my system'; it ain't perfect to be honest, but it sure has been fun to actually make and just seeing Miku and Gumi in it - that's just a reward in it of itself. :)

*HEAD BANG* - actually, it doesn't need any as the crew are in a kneeling position (Japanese style).

Yeah, it's an unusual configuration, but the advantage is that the vehicle can be smaller and hence more 'moe'. Just an experiment, doubtful application for a real world vehicle as that position (kneeling) would be uncomfortable to maintain over a period of time.
