Just messing around with SketchUp Make 2014. It's a nice piece of software.
The 'van ship' shown here doesn't really look like anything from the anime. Those have a much more streamline 1930s art deco styling to them. My version is just a 'flying bathtub', partly because I was making it up as I was going along. Really more of a practice model than anything else. As I drew it out, it's more like a mix between the van ships from the Last Exile anime, an early WWI vintage fighter/observation plane and a 'flying bathtub'. The latter because SketchUp doesn't have a decent mesh editing function so boxy type shapes tend to be the result.
Anyway, it's also set up so that it can have animated controls including:
- steerable pilot column
- working choke and fuel controls
- working landing gear and controls for same
- working throttle
- work table with map
- radio set
- first aid kit
- radar set (?)
- holders for telescope (or binoculars), sextant (maybe), thermos or flare gun
Not sure whether I be finishing this, but it was fun to make. Probably will finish it though since I've taken it this far already, besides, using SketchUp it'll be easy to redo entire sections if I want to change my mind on somethings.
