MMD Mariel's Rural Delivery Service

Description

One of the downsides of being a 'youkai' trying to integrate into modern day Japanese society is that, because of her ears, a lot of people mistaken Mariel as being a cosplay freak. So getting a part time job could be a bit of a challenge. Yes arguably she could go serve burgers at Mickey Dee's where the hat would hide the ears, but being a 'mouse' girl, the cheeseburgers would be too much of a temptation. Then again she did try and find a position at Disney World, but was turned down as her ears were "too small, please comeback when you're older". Sometimes, you just can't win can you?

So, in order to supplement her meagre allowance, as she comes from a very humble rural family with many kids, she elected to use her father's old 'Tamo Track' and work as an independent delivery service that provides a much need link between isolated farming communities, deep within the mountains of northern Honshu, and the outside world.

Not only does she bring in goods and supplies that they've ordered, but she takes orders for them as well as make some deliveries for them in the opposite direction. However, the service that most of her customers value the highest is that she's their primary source for news about the outside world.

Cosmopolitan Japan may be very technologically advanced, but back here in these rustic mountains, an outhouse is hi-tech and being steeped in lore and legends of their ancient land, the folk here think nothing of being served by a 'youkai' delivery girl.

Nice work, but I'm gonna shoot your story full of logic. You have power poles in your picture. That means if electricity made it up the mountains that far, so did a radio transmission tower. FM signals might be wonky, but AM signals work pretty good even in mountainous regions. Television might have been a luxury, but unless you traveled down the mountain for a newspaper daily, radio was a necessity. You place Mariel in present day society, so even a simple used Panasonic transistor radio would have made it up into the mountains by now.
