MMD Luka's Black Magic Stage Set by Trackdancer MMD Luka's Black Magic Stage Set by Trackdancer
I saw ~NEVAIN's excellent rendition of a magic circle several months back and wanted to do a stage set with it; and he has kindly given me permission to do that. I've played around with different configurations but in the end I wanted something a little more surreal for this set, so I ended up using the design shown here.

This set also features a translucent screen capture display. I believe this is the first time anyone has done this for a stage set. It actually works quite well, especially if you use a background that takes full advantage of this feature.

IMPORTANT: Please note that you will need MME effects FIRE and Object Luminous to be able to obtain the full benefits from this set.

APPENDUM
This was omitted in the instructions, but note that when setting up the revolving crystal ball,
you will need to position it at 40 units along the x-axis, otherwise it will not be at the
correct location. Bone15 itself, remains at the origin.

Instruction Sheet amended as of this posting on 07-08-2012

I don't make effects, I just use them. There's already a fire works effect - look for it on BeamMan's website or VPVP Wikia.

I know not the referance to series, so on that I can not comment...
The over-all feel for the scene seems correct ...

The main critic I can say which I feel has no part with the level of CG rendering & such, though more Common sense is the mirror.
Unless it's a portal to a parrelle deminssional point (which would explain why the image seems like a repeating window), it should be (persepctively) showing the back-side of Luka.

Other than that...
only if you do not mind that is,
I would like to attempt using the layout as part of a charcter's housing zone on an MMO I play on.
(other than the ruins/letters & the waves of the sun/star from ~NEVAIN, I am mostly sure of being able to make a close version there of)

1/. The model does not reference any series, it is an original work.
2/. The "mirror" is a motion capture device. It repeats whatever is shown from the MMD program's camera POV.
3/. This model has been release to the Deviant Art MMD community, specifically and exclusively, for use in conjunction with the MikuMikuDance program under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 License. This model, its concept or parts thereof, is/are not stock material for reuse in other works. If you do not fully understand what this means, please click on this [link]

In anycase, the magic circle, will require separate permission from it's author ~NEVAIN as it was not released as Creative Commons artwork.

Thank you for your attention and comment.

Not true - I have several projects that were abysmal failures that I've never released. Not all things work out as intended. Sometimes it's just my lack of skills and sometimes the technology doesn't work as expected.

Apply the power of "Lateral Thinking" ... ;) ... I highly recommend it. :)

So I have to make a compromise of being these two? (I am quoting wiki here lol)

"He or she sees the big picture and all its possibilities but has little interest in linear, step-by-step implementation."

"The purely vertical thinker is a nit-picker, a legalist, a tight-ass. "

xD

Whoever wrote the Wiki article isn't a designer or artist.

Art and Design can be a linear thought process but creativity (my POV) is a lateral process. Often, referred to as "Inspiration". Its sort of like you're thinking along a logical sequence but actually come to a "solution" by taking a leap in a tangential direction.

Implementing that concept then usually (but not always) becomes once again a linear process, but Jazz musicians and expressionist artists would probably tend to disagree.

In, my own experience, and these stages are fair examples, the better ones have almost in all cases been the result of lateral thought processes. The Luka stage above was not designed as you see it now, the original idea was very different and you cannot connect "A" to "B" in this case as there is no linear path. The only thing that is consistent is NEVAIN's magic circle. The final design as implemented here is actually the third re-iteration. The first two were similar, but were flawed design-wise. The third attempt, literally came about as a "bling" lightbulb, experience; but the process of building it was a pure exercise in logic (as dictated by the medium).

I've been planning on doing a set like this for awhile now, just never managed to get around to doing it until now - do let me know how you find this version. If there's areas that can be improved, etc.

Cheers :)

Led Zeppelin - "Stairway to Heaven" - it worked beautifully too; so much for "Freedom of Expression" in this country.

Honestly, the song is like what, going on 20 years old now, they've made their money on it years ago, this is just blatant corporate greed. It's not our fault that for the most part the music industry is producing drivel that no one wants to buy these days.

I think we need another Revolution ...
