MMD Galaco CV 1.1 - Model Review

Description

This is an edit by ~CarleighE .. and upfront I'll be very honest, this model has big problems.

In it's current state it is unusable so it makes little sense to really comment on it in the usual manner, so for this review I will just focus on the problems and add some fixes at the end.

Honestly, I knew that there would be issues with this model even when downloading it as it's a huge download for a single model.

Unpacking it shows why.

[1] All the development files are packed with the distribution package - the model only use a small fraction of the texture files packed.
[2] There are multiple copies of the same texture files. Example: face1.png ~ face5.png. These are big tex maps. 1024x1024. They kind of look all the same to me ...
[3] Skin texture requires three 2048x2048 texture maps? For a model that doesn't even show much skin - no way.
[4] The skirt uses a 1920x1200 texture map weighing in at 2.12MBs (and there's two copies) - Are we texturing a model or trying to dress a PC desktop?

These alone would have probably bogged down your average graphics card. I could go on but I won't.

Let's look at the model in the PMD editor instead as it doesn't want to move in MMD on my system.

[1] Bones, facials and groups are not labeled.
[2] That skirt is frankly nuts ... it's a mini-skirt, not a flamenco dress. The physics calculations alone will kill most systems.

I'm going to stop here. There's too many negatives for this to be a constructive review. It needs a lot more work before this model can be really considered for serious use. Some people may have much better computers than I have and might be able to use this model, but even then this is not an efficient model.

Recommendations:
At the very least do the following:

[1] Clean up the distribution package - include only those files needed by the model
[2] Rationalize and streamline your texture maps. There's no argument that can made to justify using a desktop wallpaper sized texture map for a skirt with this type of design. Reduce it to 512x512 pixels in size and no one will be able to see the difference.
[3] Fix that skirt. It does not need so many bones and definitely only a fraction of the physics.
[4] The model has a lot of junk (bones, a stack of redundant facials) that needs to be cleaned up.

Sorry, but I cannot recommend this model to anyone in its current form. You have a lot of creative energy and that's a good thing. You just need to work on learning how to build efficient models. I remember you had a nice looking model of a chibi House Cat See U which was also unusable. If you want, send me a copy of that, and I'll clean it up for you and redo the hair physics so that you have a good working template moving forwards.

Thank you so much for reviewing her!
You see-- no one ever gives me feedback on how to imrpove so I have absolutely no idea what is wrong. You've just filled that gap tjat I was missing.
Thank you so much. Now I can fix the problems to the point of where people can actually use her.
