Description

Miku: What's this charge on our bill?
Me: Which one?
Miku: The 0.48 cents...
Me: That's the sales tax.
Miku: Since when did they start taxing food?
Me: Well it's cooked food.
Miku: Isn't food supposed to be eaten cooked?
Me: Well yeah...
Miku: But the government isn't supposed to tax food, right?
Me: Only uncooked food is tax exempt.
Miku: So let me get this straight. If McDonalds served you raw meat on unbaked dough, it's tax exempt?
Me: Essentially.
Miku: But no one's going to eat raw meat and unbaked dough, right?
Me: Correct.
Miku: So if McDonalds serves it cooked the government then can put a tax on the food.
Me: Yep.

Miku: ...

Miku: So what value does the government add to the food just because it's cooked?
Me: None.

Miku: So this 0.48 cents is for doing nothing right?
Me: Well, it's a city tax. It's one of the ways this city's government generates revenue to pay for the services that the community needs.
Miku: Services like what, again?
Me: Well like maintaining the streets...

Miku: HAH! There's pot holes all over the place, some of them big enough to sink a car in!
Me: Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration...
Miku: Then why do you drive around them then?
Me: Wouldn't want to damage my tires by driving into one now would I?

Miku: Alright... Let me get this straight!
Me: OK...

Miku: We're in Milpitas, California. One of the richest satellite cities next to San Jose in the heart of the Silicon Valley. They tax the 'food' and anything else you buy, plus they get taxes from things like rates and they still can't fill the pot holes in the roads?
Me: Well to be fair, it's been raining really heavily earlier this year and combined with the dry weather we've had for the last few years, that hasn't been good for the roads.
Miku: How hard is it to just pour some asphalt to fill up a few hole?
Me: Not that hard but...
Miku: I think the tax payers are being ripped off!

Me: Miku, stop right there. We can't have you discussing politics.
Miku: Why not?
Me: The Piapro License.
Miku: Yeah, like who reads that? Not even me! The friggin thing is longer than "War and Peace" and it's written in Japanese, too!
Me: You just used a bad word there...
Miku: HAH? Just because I'm cute don't think I can't use bad words!

Me: Changing the subject; you read "War and Peace"?
Miku: Nah, I just read the manga version...
Me: There's a manga version of "War and Peace"?
Miku: War and Peace (Sensou to Heiwa)(Manga De Dokuha). You can get it as an eBook, too!

Miku: Anyway, about our order...
Me: Yes?
Miku: The hot cakes and sausage are for you right?
Me: Yep.
Miku: And this side order of sausage...
Me: Is for the dog.
Miku: That coffee with 6 sugars and 3 cream is yours too, right? BTW, why did you order it like that?
Me: I order it like that as it's environmentally more friendly. Doesn't require the extra packaging for the sugar and cream.

Miku: And then there's the 'sales tax'...
Me: Yep.
Miku: SO WHERE'S MY ORDER???
